Members of the Flying Geckos enjoy a wide range of benefits together with a structured developmental programme which is designed to help the enjoy their climbing to the full, and to reach their true potential.

Membership Eligibility
Members must have a belay license from the YMCA Adventure Centre, either via one of the YMCA courses, or if you’re 13 and over, by completing a belay induction with the YMCA.
Members must be a minimum of 8 years old to join.
There is a general expectation that members do progress through the various squads (there is plenty of leeway given for varying rate of progress!); i.e. while the social aspect of how the club operates makes it enjoyable, it is not intended to be purely a club for “social climbing”.
We have a limited number of volunteers and the volunteers are there to assist members wanting to progress, so the expectation is that members move upwards/out of the way to allow other members to follow through afterwards.
Financial Obligations
Flying Geckos club fees are only:
- Term Fee – $15 per term (invoices for this are sent each term)
Club membership includes use of club equipment (shoes, harnesses, ropes and quickdraws) and instruction and coaching by our trained club volunteers.
Please note that these fees do not cover the cost of entry to the YMCA Adventure Centre or any other facility we might visit.
Registration
As a voluntary club, we are limited in the numbers of youth members that our volunteer support adults and coaching staff can realistically support. We therefore may have to limit our intake of new members to approximately 20 per term. If unsuccessful in joining the club this term, you can opt to go on to our waiting list for consideration first next term.
We usually only take new members at the start of each school term (and a maximum of approximately 20 new members per term). Completed registrations are requested before the end of the prior term to assist with planning.
Once you register via the form below, and when your application has been reviewed, you should receive an email from at the email address you have provided asking you to complete your membership registration online using our Sportlyzer membership system, including digitally “accepting” the membership agreement which sets out expectations of behaviour, commitment to training, safety, risk, etc. You can also contact the Membership Officer via the details below for more information.
